Paul Panhuysen
Aviary in Neerpelt/Belgium
Paul Panhuysen designed and furnished in September 2005 his first
permanent public aviary in the parc of Dommelhof, Neerpelt Belgium
within the context of Klankenbos. To suit the basic needs of the birds
he created space, shelter, food, nestingplaces and baths. He also
installed possibilities to amplify, receive and modify sounds. This
outdoor aviary in a public domain also allows people to observe the
birds' behaviour closely without intruding upon them.
Since 1990 Panhuysen has worked with birds in different projects and
locations a.o. Theatre Fletchbizzel, Dortmund; P.S.1 Museum New York;
the Exploratorium, San Francisco; Yellow Spring Institute, Chester
Springs USA; Confort Modern, Poitiers and Musee d'art contemporain,
Lyon. The CD's "Singing the World into Existence" and
"Live with the Birds" are recordings with birdsongs and
instruments and have been released on ApolloRecords.
